I am so sorry for missing Nakabi!! Happy Nakabi to you all.
MATCH OF THE DAY: Fujino-freaking-kawa is such a glorious little king. I’m breaking my san’yaku rule because Oho got absolutely owned by the little guy. Fujinokawa… you are such a badass. He went for the lift-out against 185-kilogram Oho, and I just… I can’t with him. Fujinokawa is such a fascinating rikishi and I really just don’t understand his physique or his strength. It does not compute, but I love him. I love his sumo.
KIMARITE OF THE DAY: Well, ain’t no question about this one. This is the Kimarite of the Day. A watashikomi victory for Takayasu after a truly befuddling match. Takayasu pretty clearly won but the gyoji got confused; Kisenosato on the sidelines caught it and was like, “Bro, the hell are you doing?” The gyoji sheepishly pointed to Takayasu and Kisenosato nodded in pleasure. That gyoji’s gonna get it in the hallway. Well, more wins for Takayasu! And quite possibly a Kimarite of the Basho.
PINK MAWASHI DAY NINE: UraUraUraUra! Two wins over two days for my favorite large man. This is the basho of Ura. Ignore the fact that he is 3-6.
OVERALL SUMMARY: This was the 36th match between Daiesho and Shodai, which is pretty damn crazy. Okay, so I still don’t have much time. Aonishiki, Kotoeiho, and Shishi lead the yusho race–two Ukrainians and one shiko monster is a pretty crazy group–andKirishima, Hakunofuji, Takayasu, Asanoyama, and Takerufuji follow.
Yoshinofuji is locked the hell in. Onosato… is not.
