MATCH OF THE DAY: Takayasu might be the oldest Makuuchi rikishi, but he did not look like it today against Roga. I wrote out a whole summary of Asanoyama vs Wakanosho for bout of the day but had to delete it all in favor of Takayasu disposing of Roga. He was on the bales before pulling an incredible spin and launching Roga down by uwatenage. I’m not a huge Takayasu fan, but I was pretty impressed today… the big man’s still got it.

KIMARITE OF THE DAY: Atamifuji!! The large gentleman is very much in good form, and I’m delighted to see it. Hiradoumi heaved against Atamifuji, who had the good sense to just focus on defense while Hiradoumi tuckered himself out and Atamifuji got a good grip, then swung him down with a sukuinage beltless arm throw.

PINK MAWASHI DAY TWO: Poor Ura. It’s not fun to be out-kimarite’d by Daieisho, and this was, um, maybe not the best performance from Ura. He has a terrible record against Daieisho–I think his response to pusher-thrusters is more often than not “Uh-oh!”, which does not lead to extremely positive results. But it will be another day and another chance to wow everyody tomorrow, Ura; don’t stress.

OVERALL SUMMARY: Kazuma got his first win over a helpless Asakoryu, then gave an extremely bland interview, while the rest of Kise-beya moved onto 0-2. Aonishiki and Kotozakura won against my boys Churanoumi and Yoshinofuji, and Onosato, right after being drafted onto my fantasy team, lost again to Fujinokawa. Onosato is in his own head and has Hakkaku and Kisenosato breathing down his neck; I’m worried for him.

Well, the frontrunners for the yusho race are, so far, Hoshoryu, Kirishima, Kotozakura, and Aonishiki, plus, I guess, the Sekiwake. Ura will take on Shodai tomorrow while Hoshoryu and Onosato trade opponents to fight Fujinokawa and Takanosho; Yoshinofuji will go up against Kotoshoho, Hakunofuji will challenge Aonishiki, and Churanoumi will see what he can do against Kotozakura.
