Aki 2025: Day Four

MATCH OF THE DAY: Hiradoumi and Atamifuji win the match of the day competition, though there were plentiful candidates today. Atamifuji, I must say–though he lost the bout–has had the most wonderful series of losses I’ve ever seen. Every single one has been well fought and not given away lightly. I hope he can turn it around and win without any closeness, but we’ll have to see. Hiradoumi charged and Atamifuji wriggled away but was eventually forced out.

KIMARITE OF THE DAY: Oho vs Aonishiki! This was a great bout. Perhaps not quite living up to the Taiho legacy, but nevertheless, Oho pulled off a great kotenage against the Ukrainian today. It’s interesting to see Oho, who was once the head of the young prospects, taking down Aonishiki but accidents happen.

PINK MAWASHI DAY FOUR: I think a little piece of my heart broke off and flew into the third row along with Aonishiki’s toe tape. Takanosho is a difficultly sized opponent for Ura and he ended up shoving him over the bales like the bully he is. Still, 3-1 is a good start, and cross your fingers for a win tomorrow. (Today, actually, since I’m posting this a little late. Sorry!)

OVERALL SUMMARY: Undefeated Mita is now likely the favorite for the juryo yusho, and my personal favorites Enho and Shimazuumi are amongst the leaders in Makushita. Kusano is back on the track, and the 0-4 rikishi include Takayasu and Abi, which is highly unusual. Not much else to say… Day 5, here we come. Instead of a picture from today, we’re going to look at this lovely picture of Ura and his friends, because it’s lovely. Thank you.
