The delightful news out of the infirmary is that Yokozuna Onosato has finally decided to take a day off. Just when the Juryo visitors started to get concerned, Onokatsu announced his intention to return tomorrow. Onosato, please rest up and heal; you need it, and no one is going to blame you for staying out. Stay strong! Onokatsu, which I find entertaining, will take on 4-0 Takanosho. Good luck, kiddo. Yoshinofuji collected the fusen win that is kind of a kinboshi from Onosato. I mean, I personally count it as a kinboshi. I count everything he does as a kinboshi. But there was another one of those today, so let’s get into the action.
MATCH OF THE DAY: I have been loving Fujiseiun’s sumo this time around, so much that I only semi-ironically drafted him in my fantasy league to replace Onosato (I took Aonishiki in the other one, which was probably a better bet). He had a brilliant bout with Tobizaru, who is struggling to stay up in Makuuchi this time around; Tobizaru quickly got his hand on the belt and Fujiseuin went in for a throw, but failed. However, he did unbalance Tobizaru and shoved him straight out. The shin-nyumaku rooke is surprisingly “locked in”, and I am here for it. He moves to 3-1.
KIMARITE OF THE DAY: I get to do this twice in a row. HA! Takanosho is very genki, but today he, instead of winning, didn’t lose. This is because Oshoma’s knee touched down by tsukihiza; his knee buckled, which looked painful, but he seemed to be fine wihile walking away. Takanosho moves to 4-0. Oshoma is less genki, and is now 2-2.
PINK MAWASHI DAY FOUR: Okay, so maybe not zensho, but Ura’s yusho is still possible, for sure, right? Daieisho, as I said yesterday, is a challenging opponent for Ura, but they are apparently buds off the dohyo, so hopefully Ura wasn’t too upset. Daieisho’s tsuppari was too powerful and Ura moves to 3-1.
OVERALL SUMMARY: Fujinokawa is the man of the last 48 hours! I love this kid, and I love his sumo lately. I will say, to be fair to Onosato, that his kinboshi yesterday was more of an “oh-man-this-guy’s-really-injured” sort of win, but it was a win. Churanoumi, another one of my boys, beat Aonishiki in a very close match. I think the gyoji verdict was correct; many disagree with me, but I do think that Aonishiki’s foot rolled and touched down first. Maybe he isn’t making it to Yokozuna? But only time will tell.
I finally had time to watch Juryo today; four men share the lead of the yusho race, including Kise-beya prospect Kazuma. Let’s all raise our Ura towels in support of his young friend.
