MATCH OF THE DAY: All right, so we’ve had our fair share of scandals. This one wasn’t an actual scandal, but it may as well have been. Poor, struggling, wounded Churanoumi took the dohyo today against Hiradoumi, who forced him up to the tawara. Churanoumi shifted aside and let Hiradoumi fall down, clearly before his foot went down. I like Hiradoumi, but Chu-Chu won that fair and square! Disgusting. Hideous. Horrible. Bad JSA. Very bad. But, good bout, Hiradoumi and Churanoumi. Not a good win, but a good bout.
KIMARITE OF THE DAY: Okay, so they’re both in san’yaku, but it’s an uwatehineri! I have been very impressed with Atamifuji in his san’yaku debut. 9-6 as a shin-Komusubi is a very good record; Takayasu’s 7-8 isn’t exactly fantastic, but whatever. Takayasu looked to be in good form today as he played with Atamifuji and disposed of him, meaning that Atamifuji did not claim a special prize. Good luck, though, and good fight!
PINK MAWASHI DAY FIFTEEN: Stupid Chiyoshoma. Stupid JSA. Stupid stupid. Ura is not going to be very high up next time, so that’ll be the one for the kachi-koshi, right, Ura? Right, Ura? Right?
OVERALL SUMMARY: Today was, strangely, kind of an anticlimax. Kotozakura and Kiri did not exactly bring the fire to their bout today, but hey, Kotozakura is at 10-5. That’s insane! You know what else is insane? Aonishiki is make-koshi. Aonishiki is going to be kadoban. In my heart of hearts, I will admit that I’m a little disappointed in him, but let’s put this into perspective a little bit more. He’s the second-youngest rikishi in the top divison and he has never been make-koshi before. He isn’t in a big stable with a lot of other sekitori to wrestle with and he had to deal with some extremely strong competitors. I think it’s high time that he struggles. And I support him. I SUPPORT HIM!
Kiri, congratulations. Welcome back to Ozeki, and much love to you and your extremely cute daughter. Congrats as well to the special prize winners, who will be covered in the basho wrap-up coming soon.
Unfortunately, I need to go get some much-needed beauty sleep on behalf of both myself and Ura. Good night and good luck to Ura, Kise-beya, and several other people who aren’t on the top of my head right now. Like Fujinokawa.
